Brewser is a homebrew web runtime built on a forked V8, Skia, and Mesa stack, bringing browser-grade JavaScript, WebGL2, and hardware APIs like Web MIDI, WebSerial, and WebBluetooth to the Nintendo Switch (custom firmware required). It ships with a curated app catalogue where every submission passes automated security scanning before publication, and the same apps run unchanged on PC and mobile. Brewser is free and built by a solo developer in the Netherlands.

Browsers stop at the edge of the supported-device list. Brewser starts there. It is a web runtime for hardware that Chrome, Safari, and Firefox will never officially reach — and the first device is the Nintendo Switch.
Under the hood, Brewser runs a forked V8 JavaScript engine with JIT compilation, Skia for rendering, and the open-source Mesa graphics stack for real WebGL2 — the same building blocks as a desktop browser, ported to the Switch homebrew toolchain. It runs modern Three.js scenes at speed on the console's Tegra hardware, in handheld or docked mode.
But the point isn't just running web pages on a console. Brewser exposes the hardware-facing web APIs that make a device a tool: Web MIDI, WebSerial, and WebBluetooth are verified working on real hardware, which means a Switch can drive LED panels, talk to microcontrollers, act as a MIDI control surface, or run a home-automation dashboard — all from ordinary web apps.
Apps are distributed through a curated catalogue. Every submission passes automated security analysis (static code inspection and taint tracking) plus review before publication. Developers submit through an open pipeline, and the same app code runs on Switch, PC, and mobile. Brewser is free, self-updating with cryptographically signed releases, and does not run commercial games or ROMs — see the Piracy & Legality FAQ.

About the developer
Brewser is built by Alex Daskalakis, a solo developer and maker based in the Netherlands, with a background spanning software development, digital visual art, microcontroller projects, MIDI hardware, and much more. Brewser grew out of a simple frustration: the most interesting devices are the ones browsers refuse to run on.
